I was crazy for Star Trek as a kid. I would watch episodes in syndications at 5:00pm on a local channel every weekday. We saw Star Trek: The Motion Picture on opening weekend in December 1979 and… I was a bit disappointed. It was cool and I was happy to get toys associated with the movie but it didn’t hit like Star Wars or even Battlestar Galactica as far as play value goes.
I had the main figures, including the first aliens set, as well as the bridge, but it was awkward to play with them. They fell out of the seats on the bridge or couldn’t really stand at the consoles. And for action, I usually switched to playing with Star Wars vehicles. As much as I love all things Star Trek, I just didn’t have a connection with these Mego figures.
