Adventure People

Fisher-Price’s Adventure People were some of the first 3 3/4″ action figures, starting in 1975 and lasting through 1985. I had a number of sets from an early age and, along with G.I. Joe Adventure Team, were some of rare toys I would take outside to my backyard.

The toys were amazingly high quality, using a combination of hard and soft plastics, cloth and wire axels and frames. I don’t think anything ever broken on these toys, even though I would put them to the test on dirt, grass, and sand plus the occasional plastic pool or bathtub excursion. The figures had grasping hands that could hold tools and accessories, of which many were included in the various sets.

In the early 1980s, Fisher-Price tried to respond to the growing popularity of Star Wars and similar toy lines but it was hard to compete with that juggernaut. We got a single, small space ship and a few space and alien figures as our final Adventure People purchases but by then I had aged out and focused on Star Wars, G.I. Joe and other toys aimed at bigger kids / pre-teens.
